Official Pickles Comic Strip Website
Here is where our readers have decided to go to contribute what they think about Earl and Opal.
The official website spot-lights t-shirts, mugs, etc., indicating they are orderable but offers no means of direct purchase. Nothing at Amazon or GoComics. Where/how are they orderable?
After I retired, I was getting very few hot meals. My wife then explained she was also retired and that toast was considered a hot meal!
I believe that I originate this a few years ago, can not be sure. Feel free to use in any form.
Every day PICKLES makes me smile. Thanks.
I can relate to Earl and love your work. Earlier this week I was offended by the comic when the 7 year old grandson asks Earl if he got him some presents, a typical question from a 7 year old. When Earl asked him if he got Earl a present he said it was too early and Earl might not be around for Christmas. At 70 I wonder if I will be here much longer but the grandson’s response was either a spoiled child or one who hears his parents talk about Earl’s life expectancy. I do not need to be reminded that my days are numbered. Think about the context of the script.
Sorry you didn’t like that one, John, but I mostly write to please myself. My readers are free to read them or not. Children Nelson’s age say things like this all the time. They haven’t learned to filter out things that might be embarrassing or inappropriate. I think it’s refreshing. I’m close to your age, and
a grandchild of mine mentioning to me that I might not be around to give him his present would be a cause of humor to me, not chagrin.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoy your strips – It’s like you’ve been spying on us. Thank you!
Never offended by your strips… What we are and who we are is a fact of life and the person who complained about reminding him of his years must not have faith in what happens after death. We are going to heaven and that hope sustains us regardless of the days or years we have left.
Also GREAT GREAT comic today saying exactly what I say to my wife ……you must be watching us with a hidden video camera………funny funny funny. Sent it to my 8 kids and friends and they all agree you are watching us:):):) God Bless your work and you and your family. Laughter is an amazing medicine which you provide us nearly every day. For the record my wife paints, knits, cleans up after me and , Opal is her best friend. Yes I do as Earl walk around with suspenders and no shirt ………..I don’t think I need to say more.

My hubby retired in April of 2016. He has had a very serious year with his health and finds enjoyment in comic reading. We laugh out loud each morning, after reading your strip. Sometimes we see who can get to it first so we can read the reaction together. Today, 1/19/17 was hysterical when Opal was reading Earl some important topics to discuss. Then her phone rang, we burst out laughing. I always say, “there’s a hint of truth in every joke.” Thank you for making our mornings. It has been a tough year and the journey is lighter because of you. God bless you, you wife and children and those lovey grandbabies.
So sorry for your tough year. I’m glad my comics have made it a little lighter. I hope 2017 is better.
I help people with their Macintosh computers, iPads and iPhones for a living. I’ve really been really enjoying your cartoons published 1/20/17 and 1/21/17. Earl fixes Opal’s frozen iPad by whacking it on the table. I’ve read them over and over and still find myself chuckling or even laughing out loud at them. I especially like the exchange where Opal says, “Now it smells like burning plastic!” and Earl responds matter-of-factly, with his hands in his pockets, “That means it’s unfreezing.” So funny!
Thank you, Brian.
Thanks, Mike. This series was inspired by a problem I was having with my iPad Pro. Luckily, I didn’t take the caveman approach, although I came awful close.
I laughed out loud at today’s cartoon (January 23, 2017) because I always thought “bathroom on the right” was what they were saying! Of course that was in the 60’s so I guess my memory is still working. Always a daily reader of Pickles.
Just wanted you to know what a kick I get out of your cartoons. You really are hilarious and I laugh every time I read them. Earl and Opal are crazy fun. Thanks and blessings to you and yours.
Thank you for our favorite entertainment every day.
Most days we see each other in print,
others days brings memories of our parents.
Shortly after I met my husband, we were discussing music. Like your
1-23-17 strip, I also thought the lyric was “bathroom on the right”.
Now whenever I do something my husband thinks is less than intelligent,
he will say “No,the bathroom is NOT on the right”.
Another lyric confusion for me – I thought song said “Honest, Lucille”.
Years later found out it was “Our Lips are Sealed” by the Go-Go’s, in 1981.
Maybe Earl can catch Opal making this error.
